Jennifer Merz is an artist, illustrator, teacher, and published writer/illustrator of picture books. She loves painting in oils as well as creating intricate, hand-crafted collage illustrations from special papers and found materials. She is captivated by the work of Henri Matisse and Romare Bearden and is particularly interested in graphically-driven composition and in pictures that express a narrative.
A longtime resident of Allendale, NJ, Jennifer completed her MFA in Illustration at F.I.T. and also holds a BA in Studio Art and Elementary Ed, and an MA in Art Ed. A certified teacher, Jennifer enjoys giving interactive presentations to all ages, and has participated in a wide variety of engagements in schools, libraries, and bookstores. She has been a Teaching Artist at the Neuberger Museum at SUNY Purchase, and an Art Instructor for Pinot’s Palette. She is pleased to be a member of CAA. She is also a member of the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), the Author’s Guild, Graphic Artists Guild, Scribble, and C-BIG (Children’s Book Illustrator Group).
