HISTORY

The Community Arts Association was formed in answer to the needs of artists in Allendale and the surrounding communities. Prior to 1965 there was much interest and activity in the arts. On June 20, 1965, an organizing committee met at the home of Mrs. George Shuit, founder. Mrs. Roy Dietert, President Pro-tem, presided at the first meeting on September 16, 1965. Mrs. Shuit gave the following address.

"It is my earnest desire that this organization be sincere, upright and honest, with equal opportunity for all the membership, that all expressions of art have equal opportunity and that we be an asset to the communities we represent and worthy of those who carry on after us."

The Association has grown rapidly in membership and its activities. Spring and Fall Art Shows are annual events. Monthly meetings are held the second Monday of each month, from September through May, in the auditorium at Northern Highlands Regional High School Hillside Avenue, Allendale, N.J. Meetings are highlighted with demonstrations and lectures by well known artists. Workshop activities are open to members and non members.

The Association was incorporated on October 28, 1965. Mr. Francis Feeley, attorney and an honorary member of the Association, presented the Association with the Seal, engraved book and the Incorporation papers.

PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVES
I.To promote and encourage interest in the fine arts by:

a. Providing physical facilities for the practice and enjoyment of the fine arts.
b. Arranging group sessions for those desiring such sessions.
c. Conducting art exhibits and lectures on such subjects.

II.To solicit, receive, hold, transfer, and convey money or other property from individuals, corporations, associations, and others to promote any or all the above.

Dues are payable by June 1, when fiscal year begins. Only fully paid up members of the Community Arts Association are eligible to enter the member shows sponsored by the association.
